‘Love Your Neighborhood’ Helping Us Shut Down the Streets!
The Justin Ancheta Band is helping shut down the San Pablo corridor in Oakland/Emeryville. The Love Your Neighborhood event organized by Oaklavia is taking over and shutting down the street right at the doorstep of our new studio. Not only do we get to enjoy car-free streets, but we get to go out into the sunshine and play some music for the people. We couldn’t be happier!
The details are as follows:
- July 12th 11 a.m. – 3 pm.
- The event will circle Doyle Street and San Pablo Avenue between 65th and 55th Streets.

While the full Justin Ancheta Band isn’t playing, Justin Ancheta is:
- First, Justin joins Shake Your Peace! for a viciously automobile-free set at 12 pm
- Then Justin immediately returns for a solo set at 1 pm
Pedal powered music and bike blended smoothies by Rock The Bike will be available, of course!
You can find more information from the Oaklavia organization here:
Come see what a major corridor looks like without cars whizzing by and Love Your Neighborhood!
Collaboration with Oz Fritz
I’m excited to announce that the Justin Ancheta Band is collaborating with the renowned mixer and producer Oz Fritz of Tom Waits and so, so many more. Some new mixes will be released later this year, so stay tuned.
Here is ‘Downward’ re-mixed by Oz, with a sweet video we hope to complete in the coming months.
Upcoming Show at Awaken Café
The next show with the full band is July 25th at the Awaken Café in Oakland. Join the invite here and come on out!
Justin Ancheta Band, MWE, and Gabe Singh Dominguez of Shake Your Peace! are to play the night away from 8-11 pm.
Onwards and Upwards
The new studio is coming along and we are hard at work with Royal Management and Soul Graffiti booking shows throughout the rest of 2014 and into 2015.

Good Cause of the Day: ‘Alhambra Hills Open Space Committee’
Last but not least, an environmental movement to stand behind! The Alhambra Hills Open Space Committee is a group who is valiantly aiming to stop the development of John Muir’s land and preserve a magnificent open space. Check them out here:
The pictures below are from this same piece of land — certainly a special place. These images are excerpts from a video we are making for our song ‘boon carri e’ that is a fitting tribute to this extraordinary piece of land.
